Jason Cyr is a self-taught visual artist originally from Winnipeg Manitoba. Now calling the west coast of British Columbia home, Jason's works in oil, encaustic, and watercolour, creating landscapes that invite their viewer to interpret what they see based on their own memories, travels and experiences. The artist's work is very organic, full of texture, free in nature and boasts very bold color, as well as striking composition. His work is frequently described as stirring, atmospheric and evocative.
"One day I realized I didn't need to create like everyone else. It didn't matter if things looked like others thought they should, or even if everyone understood the images. What did matter was that I was expressing what I had to say in a way that made sense to me. Shape, color, texture and space make sense to me, they create, or recreate a mood as much as an image. I attempt to capture a moment in time, rather than an entirely literal representation of a physical space."
