Biography

Peter was born in England in 1943. He became interested in art at school and excelled in painting and drawing. He was one of a group of six chosen to design and paint a mural for his school entry hall. He studied Drawing and Design at Southampton Technical College.

Immigrating to Canada in 1965, he lived in Toronto for two years then drove to Vancouver. He became enthralled by the mountains, mist and sea and the ever-changing light. He has lived and painted on the West Coast ever since.

His hobbies include hiking, cycling, exploring and photography. In 1975, Peter started growing orchids, mostly hybrids, eventually having over 1000 plants. He has exhibited and judged at many shows in British Columbia, the United States and Japan. He sold his collection several years ago in order to paint full time.

Peter was first inspired by the works of the Group of Seven and the French Impressionists but he had developed his own distinct style. His sensitive use of colour expresses his intense involvement with nature.

"I am guided by the subjects I paint and the way they affect me. I use acrylic paint because it enables me to express the subtleties and textures of nature. I am profoundly moved by the incredible strength, majesty and solitude found at high elevations. I am also excited by the many moods of the Pacific Ocean and its shoreline."

Peter has participated successfully in numerous shows. His paintings are now in private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States, Britain, Europe and the Far East.
